Joey Nilan is a government beat reporter at the Androscoggin Journal in Boblin, Maine. He began his career there in 2004, starting on the police beat before ascending to the coveted job of covering state and local politics. He enjoys home brewing beer, tormenting his dog Geek and making politicians nervous.
The Controversy
In the spirit of Primary Colors, fellow Maine Journalist Mark LaFlamme may be weaving a very real past event with a bit of fictional present in his new book, Dirt: An American Campaign. In the book, the son of a "Governor Cotton", removes the corpse of his beloved bride from the Riverside Cemetery in Boblin, Maine and goes on the run.
Fact is Calvin Cotton's wife did die in 2004 and, rumor has it, Calvin did go missing for some time shortly after.
Is this something the Cotton campaign is really trying to cover up? Or is it all a fabrication by LaFlamme?
